Joel Embiid was ruled out at halftime Monday night in Game 4 of the Sixers-Wizards first-round series.
With the 76ers up 3-0 in the series, the team can afford to take this slow.
Philadelphia star center Joel Embiid fell to the floor hard in the first quarter and won't return in the second half.
WASHINGTON (AP) Philadelphia center Joel Embiid headed to the locker room late in the first quarter of Game 4 of the 76ers' Eastern Conference playoff series against the Washington Wizards after taking a hard fall and later was ruled out for the rest of the night because of a sore right knee. The Sixers posted on Twitter at halftime that Embiid would not return because of the knee. Mike Scott took Embiid's place in the lineup to begin the second half.
On May 24, Warriors president Bob Myers said the team has no plans on trading rookie James Wiseman.

Philadelphia's star center took a hard fall in Game 4 against the Wizards in the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs.
76ers center Joel Embiid exited Philadelphia's contest against the Wizards in the first quarter Monday night due to right knee soreness.
Embiid was ruled out for the game shortly before halftime as Philadelphia held a 61-60 lead. He appeared to injure his knee on a drive to the basket against Wizards center Robin Lopez.
Embiid torched the Wizards in the first three games of the first-round series as Philadelphia took a 3–0 lead. He tallied 36 points and eight rebounds in Game 3 on May 29, finishing the night 14-18 from the field in a 132-103 victory. Embiid's hot start to the playoffs continues his brilliance from the regular season, where he averaged a career-high 28.5 points per game.
Philadelphia is looking to complete the series sweep of Washington in Game 4. The Sixers have reached the playoffs in each of the last four seasons, though they have yet to win the Eastern Conference since 2001.

A Celtics fan threw a water bottle at Nets star Kyrie Irving as the team left the court following Sunday's Game 4.
As the Nets walked off the floor following their 141-126 win over the Celtics in Game 4 of the first round, Brooklyn star Kyrie Irving was nearly hit in the head by a water bottle thrown from the stands. The broadcast shows the bottle coming close to Irving while he walks into the tunnel with the rest of the team.
Irving, who played for the Celtics from 2017-19, spoke earlier this week on his concerns about how Boston fans would welcome him back as an opposing player, saying he hoped fans would keep their taunting to "strictly basketball."
Celtics guard and former teammate Marcus Smart seemed to validate Irving's concerns, saying he's heard racist comments from Boston fans during his time with the team.
Boston Police appeared to be arresting the man who presumably threw the bottle after the game. Officials were seen escorting a man wearing a Celtics jersey while in handcuffs.
After the game, Nets forward Kevin Durant sounded off on the incident, urging fans to, "Grow the f--- up, and enjoy the game. It's bigger than you," per Matt Brooks from Nets Daily.
Irving added his frustration afterwards, characterizing the event as "underlying racism."
"You're seeing a lot of old ways come up ... just underlying racism and treating people like they're in a human zoo," Irving said, per ESPN's Malika Andrews. "Throwing stuff at people, saying things. There is a certain point where it gets to be too much."
Durant and Irving combined for 81 points on 25-for-44 shooting and 9-for-15 on three-point attempts on Sunday, proving too much for Boston's defense to handle. Brooklyn's third All-Star, James Harden, had 23 points and 18 assists.
The Nets' win gives Brooklyn a 3-1 series lead, with a chance to advance to the second round at home on Tuesday.

Nearly six years removed from WWE’s Night of Champions, Sting will be given the chance to hear the crowd again at AEW's Double or Nothing.
Sting returns to action this Sunday for AEW’s Double or Nothing pay-per-view. He is teaming with Darby Allin against the team of Scorpio Sky and Ethan Page, and though he has already wrestled a cinematic match for the company, this will mark his first time wrestling inside an AEW ring.
The last time Sting wrestled in front of a crowd on pay-per-view was WWE’s Night of Champions show in September of 2015. Facing Seth Rollins for the WWE title, this was a long-awaited chance to see Sting—an icon of the industry that starred in WCW and, later, TNA—do the unthinkable by winning WWE’s top title. In the match prior, Rollins had dropped the U.S. title to John Cena, and it was not out of the question to see Sting finally claim WWE gold by dethroning Rollins in the main event.
Right from the start, with Sting hitting his signature Stinger Splash on Rollins, the match was back-and-forth action. But it took a dark turn when Rollins hit Sting with a turnbuckle powerbomb. The manner in which Sting hit the turnbuckle led to whiplash, causing trauma to his spinal cord. He tried to regain his composure and continue the match, until collapsing in the center of the ring.
“I knew something was really, really wrong when my legs would not work,” said Sting, whose name is Steve Borden. “They just wouldn’t function. They felt like rubber bands, which is when I went on all fours.”
The crowd in Houston, Texas at the Toyota Center was acutely aware that this was not part of the plan. The match was stopped, and it appeared that it would not continue.
“It made me think of when I first started in the business,” said Sting. “Eddie Gilbert, who managed Rick Steiner and me and Jim Hellwig, he’d always talk to us about the finish. ‘The finish, the finish, you’ve got to get to the finish.’ That’s stuck with me all these years. So that night I was thinking, ‘I can’t not finish the match.’ I had to finish. I remember thinking, ‘Please God, let me get back on my feet. Don’t let me end my career in a catastrophe.’ I remember my legs coming back to me, and I wanted to finish the match.”
As he started to regain strength in his legs, Sting received a genuine boost from the crowd’s thunderous ovation. Those in attendance refused to see Sting suffer a career-ending injury, and it was as though their energy helped power him back to a healthier state.
“The fans knew something wasn’t right,” said Sting. “They started chanting, and they started chanting some more. I’ll always remember the way that made me feel. That made up my mind–I needed to find a way to finish.”
Sting continued the match. And the crowd erupted, nearly willing into existence a miraculous moment as he seemed on the cusp of winning the WWE title. This happened twice, with the decibel level swelling to a fever pitch when Sting appeared to snatch victory from defeat, locking his trademark Scorpion Deathlock onto Rollins. Due to his weakened state, it is arguably the least convincing manner of the hold he had ever applied, yet somehow, it personified everything beautiful about pro wrestling. And the crowd did everything possible to provide an extra jolt, sending goosebumps throughout the arena—until Rollins rolled up Sting for the win.
“I will never, ever forget that night,” said Sting. “The way the fans reacted, it was so organic. It meant the world to me.
“People still say to me, ‘You should have the belt. They shot themselves in the foot by not doing it.’ We had a really good match up until the point of my injury, one I’m proud of wrestling. And I was so happy to finish the match.”
Sting made an impact throughout all of his WWE appearances, from the surprise Survivor Series debut in 2014, the most memorable WrestleMania loss of all-time against Triple H at WrestleMania 31, and a thrilling Raw main event where he teamed with John Cena against Seth Rollins and The Big Show.
“WrestleMania is a great memory, too,” said Sting. “I know so many fans have said to me, ‘You should have won that match.’ But when you think about that WrestleMania, what do you remember about it? Hulk, Hall, Nash, and DX, that was surreal. I hope that’s what people remember.”
Sting has been an integral part of AEW since his surprise debut this past December. Yet it is possible that he never would have left WWE had he been given a chance, even in a cinematic manner, to have a match with The Undertaker.
“I wanted that to happen,” said Sting. “I was very clear publicly, and I was very clear with WWE, as well. I wanted my last hurrah against Taker.
“For whatever reason, it just never materialized. To this day, I don’t know why. Maybe Taker never wanted to work with me. I have no idea. I mean, I’ve had good conversations with Taker and we’ve always got along. I don’t know why the match never happened, but it should have happened. Because it wasn’t going to happen, and I knew it, and that wasn’t the only reason why I left WWE, but it’s one of the reasons why I left. I wanted that one last match.”
WWE, specifically Vince McMahon, saw no in-ring future for the former face of WCW. Enter Tony Khan, who already had a pre-existing relationship with Sting. And the visionary that created AEW also found a way to persuade Steve Borden to reapply his face paint and lace up his boots for a true farewell run.
“I’d known Tony Khan long before AEW, and he had put in a call to me and we had a great conversation,” said Sting. “He made a few pitches to me, I liked what I was hearing, and I’m glad I did.”
Sting’s run has enhanced AEW’s mid-card and provided the company with a genuine legend. Unlike WWE, where Sting was never given legendary star treatment afforded to someone of the stature of The Undertaker, he is treated like an icon in AEW. Working with younger stars—like Darby Allin, Brian Cage, Ricky Starks, and now Scorpio Sky and Ethan Page—has also introduced him to a new generation of emerging stars seeking to make a lasting imprint on the industry.
“When I started in AEW, I remember getting asked if I planned on being a mentor or teaching,” said Sting. “And of course I do, but after five or six years of not being involved on a heavy level, wrestling can pass you by. The wrestling industry has changed a lot. Most of the guys, these young guys, they’re teaching me. I’m learning a lot about the wrestling business, how it has evolved, and how the way to tell a story has evolved. Even the moves, everything is completely different. I really appreciate it for what it is now, and I’m still trying to figure out how to plug myself in, taking the old school and mixing it with the new school. So far, it’s been a good balance.”
AEW has provided new life for Sting, and a chance to rewrite his final chapter. More twists and turns still remain for the 62-year-old before he hangs up his boots, including the Double or Nothing tag match with Darby Allin.
“Even though I was retired, I didn’t want to disappear,” said Sting. “And it was the way in which I departed WWE. I’d rather go out making some sort of statement. I just love to entertain and I love to learn, and I’m learning a lot from these young guys. I wish I could have ran up and down the road with some of these guys 20 years ago, especially Darby Allin. He is just so talented.”
Sting’s tag match in March at Revolution was a cinematic street fight, but the Double or Nothing match will be different. This is his chance to work in the ring again, hearing the roar of the crowd as he applies his brand of wrestling justice. And despite an abundance of experience, Sting noted that he can already feel the nerves building in anticipation.
“35 years of being in the wrestling industry, there hasn’t been a time when I walked through the curtain and I wasn’t nervous, so I’m happy this time isn’t any different,” said Sting. “Once that first lockup happens, all the nerves will go away. I’m really looking forward to being in front of a big, live crowd again, and I won’t forget where I came from.”
Nearly six years removed from WWE’s Night of Champions, Sting will be given the chance to hear the crowd again at Double or Nothing.
“I appreciate the fans every day,” said Sting. “Every time I came back to WWE, either on Raw or a pay-per-view, and now with AEW, hearing the crowd, I marvel over the way they care about me. I’m very grateful for it, it means the world to me. And it goes both ways—I love those fans, too. I’m thankful that God has given me the ability to do this, even now at this age, and I appreciate the fact that fans still love it. And I plan on delivering for them on Sunday.”

Braves outfielder Marcell Ozuna was arrested on Saturday in Fulton County, Georgia, on domestic battery and aggravated assault charges. Ozuna was booked by the Sandy Springs Police Department for allegedly strangulation of a family member.
Ozuna, 30, is currently on the injured list with broken fingers in his left hand and was not with the team in New York. Major League Baseball is expected to open an investigation into the matter, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan, and he could face a suspension in accordance with the league's domestic violence abuse policy.
Last year, Ozuna's wife, Genesis, was arrested for domestic battery in which she allegedly threw a soap dish at Ozuna that resulted in a facial laceration. The arrest followed a two-week investigation by the police.
Ozuna is in his second season with the Braves after signing a one-year contract prior to the 2020 season. He re-signed with the team on a four-year, $65 million deal this past winter. He's previously played for the Marlins and Cardinals.

A Utah judge reportedly dismissed a $100M defamation lawsuit against Russell Westbrook and the Jazz after two fans were banned for taunting the then-Thunder player.
A Utah judge dismissed the $100 million lawsuit against Russell Westbrook and the Jazz on Tuesday, according to court documents obtained by ESPN.
The two fans, Shane Keisel and Jennifer Huff, were banned from Utah's games after taunting the nine-time All-Star when he was a member of the Thunder in March 2019. They claimed defamation and infliction of emotional distress in their lawsuit.
According to Westbrook, they made racially insensitive comments towards him, including saying "get on your knees like you're used to." Keisel in turn claimed he actually said "ice those knees up" and his words were "the same kind and caliber as that of the other audience members in the section."
Westbrook was seen in a video saying "I'll f--k you up," to the two fans, and the NBA fined him $25,000 "for directing profanity and threatening language to a fan."
This wasn't the first or the last time Westbrook experienced heckling. He was fined after slapping a phone out of a fan's hand during the 2018 NBA playoffs. And on Wednesday, a fan poured popcorn on the current Wizards star just before he exited the floor after sustaining an apparent ankle injury during Game 2 of Washington's series against Philadelphia.
The Sixers fan involved in the Westbrook incident had his season ticket membership revoked and was subsequently banned from future events at Wells Fargo Center.
Poor behavior from spectators continues to be an issue across the league. The Jazz ejected three fans on Wednesday night for heckling the family of Grizzlies star Ja Morant during Game 2 of the Utah/Memphis series, according to The Salt Lake Tribune's Andy Larsen. They will be banned indefinitely.
Additionally, the Knicks banned one of their fans for spitting on Hawks star Trae Young. The team said in a statement Thursday they "investigated the matter and determined that this patron, who is not a season ticket holder, did indeed spit on Trae Young, and for that reason, he is now banned from The Garden indefinitely."

Shildt had plenty to say about the widespread use of foreign substances by pitchers after he was ejected during Wednesday's game.
Cardinals manager Mike Shildt was ejected during Wednesday's 4-0 loss to the White Sox, and he had plenty to say about the issue after the game. The trouble started in the seventh inning, when umpire Joe West instructed Cardinals pitcher Giovanny Gallegos to switch his hat because of a foreign substance on it.
Shildt came to the mound to argue, and was subsequently tossed.
Following the game, Shildt took issue not with his ejection, but with baseball's inconsistent policing of what he views as the game's "dirty little secret."
"There are people that are effectively—and not even trying to hide it—essentially flipping the bird at the league, with how they're cheating in this game with concocted substances," Shildt said, per Katie Woo of The Athletic.
"You want to police some sunscreen and rosin? Go ahead," Shildt said. "Get every single person in this league. ... Why don't you start with the guys that are cheating with some stuff that's really impacting the game?"
West said Shildt was ejected for his use of profanity, which Shildt took no issue with. In a statement after his post-game comments, Shildt re-iterated that the burden of policing baseball's foreign substance usage should fall on the league, not the umpires.
“I have a great working relationship with the umpires and Major League Baseball. The have a lot of challenges to doing their job and they do it well," Shildt said, per Woo. "Having to police foreign substances, candidly, shouldn’t have to be a part of their job.”
Before the start of the season, MLB sent a memo to all 30 teams about new policies to crack down on pitchers using foreign substances. Among the measures being taken included inspecting balls taken out of play, analyzing spin rate data and closely monitoring dugouts and clubhouses.
Eno Sarris of The Athletic noted that while sunscreen and rosin does enhance grip without meaningfully impacting performance, and the effect is far less than other substances like pine tar and a sticky, grip-enhancing product called Spider Tack.
Ultimately, Shildt said his comments were primarily meant with rule-following pitchers in mind, a group of players he feels are most negatively impacted by the rampant violations he views going on throughout the league.
"How many guys that are pitching their tails off in MLB that are doing it clean, and have an unfair competitive advantage for the guys who are clearly loading up concoctions that they actually advertise, don't do anything to hide in plain view?" Shildt said, according to Woo. "That's who I'm sticking up for."

Marc Lore and Alex Rodriguez's purchase of the Timberwolves hit a speed bump as Meyer Orbach, the second largest shareholder, filed a complaint.
Marc Lore and Alex Rodriguez's purchase of the Timberwolves from owner Glen Taylor hit a speed bump as Meyer Orbach, the second largest shareholder of the franchise, filed a complaint in U.S. District Court.
According to a copy of the complaint obtained by ESPN, Orbach is alleging that the purchase violates the franchise's partnership agreement. It cites Taylor's failure to honor "tag-along rights" for the minority investors. Their rights allow them to sell their interests before Taylor, according to the document.
"When Orbit [Orbach's company] attempted to exercise its tag-along rights, Taylor not only ignored Orbit but also privately stated—contrary to his public statements—that he's not proposing to enter into a 'control sale' with Rodriguez and Lore at this time," the complaint said. "Instead, Taylor is claiming that any 'control sale' will be years in the future, and therefore Orbit currently does not have any tag-along rights."
Lore and Rodriguez are still waiting for a vote of the NBA governors for final approval of the sale. The two are expected to be equal, 50-50 partners, and will sign the paperwork for the deal reportedly worth $1.5 billion in the coming days.
The current plan is for them to purchase the team in installments, beginning with limited partners before gaining a controlling stake in the 2023-24 season. The sales agreement is expected to be completed by July 1.
Additionally, Orbach, a New Jersey real estate mogul who owns more than 17% of the Timberwolves and WNBA Lynx, revealed a key piece of information in the complaint. There is reportedly no provision in the sale agreement that requires the new ownership group to keep the franchise in the state.
There's a clause reportedly listed under "Governance Matters" that lists several actions which would require the new owners to "present to the Advisory Board for discussion." Included is any plan to "relocate the team outside of the Twin Cities market."
According to the complaint, the agreement states that the "Advisory Board is advisory only ... and no action ... requires the approval, in any form, by the Advisory Board to be effective."
