Petr Cech opts to stay at Arsenal and compete with Bernd Leno for no.1 jersey despite Napoli interest

Petr Cech has promised to fight for the no.1 jersey at Arsenal despite the recent acquisition of German glovesman Bernd Leno.

Cech, who moved to the Emirates Stadium from Chelsea in the summer of 2015, also revealed that he was approached by Napoli and his former coach Carlo Ancelotti.

The Czech keeper is expected to make way for Leno after the 26-year-old completed his £19million move to Arsenal from Bayer Leverkusen.

But Cech said he is keen to work under new boss Emery.

“My contract with Arsenal still has a year to run,” Cech told journalists in Zruc in his native Czech Republic.

“The only thing I’m preparing for is the fight for the No.1 spot in goal.

“Napoli were interested but my future is at Arsenal. I didn’t think of changing clubs.”

Cech’s decision to remain at the club thus puts David Ospina’s future at the club in doubt, who has been linked with a move to Turkish giants Fenerbahce.
