He started this season with four wins from the opening four matches, and currently has Watford in the top half of the Premier League table.
Gracia, who managed clubs in Spain, Greece and Russia before being appointed the Hornets’ head coach, has put pen to paper on a four-and-a-half-year deal.
“I am very happy to extend my contract,” Gracia said.
“I am very proud in this moment to be part of this club and to belong here for more seasons.”

Scott Duxbury, the Watford chairman and CEO, added: “We are delighted that Javi has agreed an extension to his contract.
“From day one it was clear that Javi worked well with us and shared our vision of how to achieve success for Watford Football Club, and we are looking forward to continuing that work together for many years to come.”
Gracia was brought in by Watford following the sacking of Marco Silva, who was dismissed in January on the back of a run of just one win in 11 matches.

- Matches: 30
- Wins: 11
- Draws: 5

Darren Pitcher: Former Charlton midfielder dies, aged 49
Former midfielder Darren Pitcher has died aged 49, Charlton Athletic confirmed on Monday.
Pitcher came through Charlton’s youth ranks, joining them at 13, and went on to make 214 appearances, scoring 12 goals before joining Crystal Palace in 1994.
The club are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former player Darren Pitcher at the age of 49
https://t.co/g2cwQLdSnt #cafc pic.twitter.com/7GJRqmJY8s
— Charlton Athletic FC (@CAFCofficial) November 26, 2018
The midfielder was part of the Charlton team which returned to their home stadium at The Valley on December 5, 1992, and helped set up the goal in the 1-0 win over Portsmouth.
Pitcher moved across south London to Palace and the Eagles went on to reach the semi-finals of both the League Cup and FA Cup in his first season.
The midfielder, though, saw his playing career eventually come to a premature end in the wake of a serious knee injury suffered against Huddersfield following a challenge from Paul Reid during a First Division match on August 31, 1996.
Pitcher had a brief spell with Leyton Orient during 1998, but never played professionally again afterwards.
In 2001, Pitcher lost his case of alleged negligence against Huddersfield at the High Court, in which he was seeking damages of more than £1million.
Latest Football News
Since leaving professional football, Pitcher had been working in the building trade.
Charlton historian Colin Cameron had reflected on Pitcher’s time with the Addicks in his book ‘Valiant 500’. He wrote: “What was admirable about Pitcher was his attitude, patience and determination to improve his game.”
Pitcher made 83 appearances for Palace, scoring two goals before his retirement, including a long-range effort in the 1994-95 FA Cup quarter-final win over Wolves.
“Crystal Palace are saddened to hear of the passing of former midfielder Darren Pitcher at the age of 49,” the Eagles said on their official website.
“Everyone at the club would like to pass on their condolences to Darren’s family and friends.”
So so sad to hear about Darren, my thoughts and the thoughts of everyone at Crystal Palace are with his family and friends.

Mick McCarthy appointed Republic of Ireland manager with Stephen Kenny to take charge after Euro 2020
Mick McCarthy has been appointed Republic of Ireland manager until the end of Euro 2020, the Football Association of Ireland have confirmed.
McCarthy takes charge on a two-year deal with Stephen Kenny, who takes immediate charge of the Under-21s, succeeding him after the next European Championship finals.
CONFIRMED | The FAI are delighted to announce that Mick McCarthy is the new Ireland Manager with Stephen Kenny with taking over as U21 Manager.

— FAIreland (@FAIreland) November 25, 2018
Terry Connor, McCarthy’s loyal number two, will join as assistant coach, alongside Ireland’s record goalscorer Robbie Keane.
“I’m honoured and excited to be back with the Republic of Ireland,” McCarthy said. “I am delighted that the FAI Board and CEO have given me this opportunity to lead the team to EURO 2020,” said McCarthy.
“I have been involved in club football for the last 15 years, so this will be a new challenge but one that I know well. I’m delighted to have Terry Connor, a trusted colleague and excellent coach, and Robbie Keane, one of the finest players who I had the pleasure of managing, helping me as assistant coaches.
Latest Football News
“I am looking forward to getting started and embracing this challenge to qualify for EURO 2020, where it would be fantastic to play in front of the Ireland supporters in Aviva Stadium.”
FAI chief executive John Delaney said McCarthy was the obvious candidate to replace Martin O’Neill, who left the role this week after relegation in the Nations League.
Delaney said: “This is a very exciting time for Irish football as we are able to welcome back a proven manager at international level in Mick McCarthy and also look to the future with Stephen Kenny.
Mick McCarthy's managerial career
- 1992-96: Millwall
- 1996-2002: Republic of Ireland (first spell)
- 2003-06: Sunderland
- 2006-12: Wolves
- 2012-18: Ipswich
- 2018-20 (expected): Republic of Ireland (second spell)
“Mick was a great player for Ireland and then had a terrific impact as manager by guiding the team to the round of 16 in the 2002 World Cup following a memorable draw with eventual finalists Germany.
“There is no doubt that he knows international football and has the appetite to lead the team forward again.”
The highly-rated Kenny, who led Dundalk to the group stages of the Europa League in 2016, is set to be unveiled at a separate press conference next week.
