The deal is finally done.
The New England Patriots and Christian Gonzalez have agreed on a massive contract extension that will keep the star cornerback in Foxboro for the foreseeable future.
It’s a four-year deal worth up to $135 million, with 102 million guaranteed. It’s the largest contract for a cornerback in NFL history.
The Patriots drafted Gonzalez with the No. 17 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, and he has rapidly become one of the team’s best players.
He was a second team All-Pro selection in 2024 and a Pro Bowler in 2025. He was outstanding for the Patriots last season, especially in the playoffs, where he had a clutch interception in the fourth quarter of the AFC Championship Game and made several excellent plays in Super Bowl 60.
Cornerback is one of the five most important positions in the modern game, so it was pretty important for the Patriots to get Gonzalez signed long term.
He is a top-five cornerback and still has room for improvement at 23 years old.
