On Tuesday, the Titans abruptly released defensive tackle Jordan Elliott without elaboration as to the "incident" that sparked the move. Multiple reports indicate it was a serious situation that could have gotten a lot worse.
Austin Stanley and Easton Freeze of AtoZSports.com and Aaron Wilson of KPRC in Houston report that Elliott went to his car to get his gun following an altercation on October 15.
Via AtoZSports.com, the Nashville Metro Nashville Police Department said on Tuesday afternoon that no reports had been filed regarding the incident.
Wilson's report adds more details. Per Wilson, Elliott and tackle JC Latham argued after a play. Elliott was then told to leave the practice field. Elliott reportedly went to the players' parking garage to get his gun from his car. Titans defensive tackle John Franklin-Myers de-escalated the situation.
It's unclear whether he actually got the gun and brought it back to the practice field. Presumably he did; if Franklin-Myers had simply stopped Elliott from going to his car, that likely wouldn't have been enough to prompt the Titans to cut Elliott.
Via Wilson, the whole thing was captured by surveillance cameras.
Elliott, 28, had signed a two-year, $8 million contract in the offseason. A third-round pick of the Browns in 2020, he spent four years in Cleveland and two in San Francisco. He played last year for Titans coach Robert Saleh, during Saleh's second, one-year stint as the San Francisco defensive coordinator.
After appearing in the first five games of the 2026 season, Elliott was inactive for Sunday's win over the Colts.
The Titans eventually decided to cut Elliott five days later, and the entire situation had been kept under wraps until the Titans released Elliott without explanation.
It's unclear whether the league was informed of the incident. It would have been prudent, if not mandatory, for the Titans to promptly contact the league office, both to inform them and to seek advice on how to proceed.
